Tips for Getting Ready for the.NET Track at Telerik Academy

Hello Everyone,

I would appreciate some advice on how to get ready for the Telerik Academy track, which I want to apply for. I’ve completed an introductory course in C# and have a basic understanding of programming ideas, but I’m not sure how much more in-depth knowledge is required before enrolling in the academy. I would value information in a few particular areas from people who have finished or are presently enrolled in the NET track:

Suggested Prerequisite Competencies: Which technical abilities are necessary to succeed? Would it be better to have a more comprehensive understanding of programming (data structures, algorithms, etc.) or concentrate on more complex C# topics?

Recommended Resources: Please contribute any books, online courses, or other materials that you found useful prior to or during the program! I’m currently using some YouTube lessons and Microsoft’s documentation, but I’d like to know if there are any resources that are especially in line with the curriculum of Telerik Academy.

Time Management Advice: I’m interested in finding a way to balance my part-time job. What is the weekly intensity of the course? Any tips on how to balance studying with completing projects and assignments on time?

Project Expectations: What kinds of tasks did you do, and what abilities were strengthened by them? Being aware of this would enable me to concentrate my pre-course education on real-world topics related to these initiatives.

I’m eager to get started on this adventure and want to be as ready as I can be. Any guidance, pointers, or firsthand knowledge would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance for your help and support.

Hey,

Did you check the information on the Alpha C# Program page? I think it answers most of your questions.

Quick answers from me

  1. The only essential quality you need for this program is dedication. You have to genuinely want to dive into programming. If your motivation isn’t rooted in passion, I recommend looking elsewhere. You’ll get a month to decide if this path is right for you, likely for life. Telerik offers that as part of the deal.
No prior tech experience is necessary.

  2. During the program, Telerik provides more than enough resources. They also have a pre-alpha training module that I highly recommend. It really helps set you up for success in the main program.

  3. I quit my job the moment the Alpha program kicked off, and I’m glad I did. I’ve heard stories about full-timers managing to juggle job, english course and the alpha program, but I think that’s either impossible or they struggled on all fronts. Personally, I dedicated 8+ hours daily (though I did have some off days, which are important too!). I had a few freelance projects during those 6 months and managed to balance them, but working 20 hours a week alongside the program will be tough. The tip: Just follow the trainers’ advice. They know what they’re talking about.

  4. You can find detailed information about the program on the C# landing page. For the JS Alpha program, the first 4 months, we focused on the essential skills every developer should have and solved numerous logical problems to reinforce our learning. Most of it was “non-visual”, mainly involving getting the console to log information in the best possible way. It’s more satisfying than it sounds! The final two months shifted to practical projects with real products outcome. That was the exciting part, though it felt like a race. In the end, we completed three full projects.

PS: As meantioned, I’m an Alpha JS alumni, not C# but I believe what I’ve said applies to you too!
